This workshop is intended for scientists with no prior PCR experience who want to become familiar with both PCR and real-time PCR methods. Students will gain a strong background in PCR theory and how to perform standard PCR. Following this introduction, students will be provided with basic real-time PCR technology and will perform real-time PCR experiments. This workshop is a combination of hands-on laboratory experiences and lectures. The content will be a combination of our 3-Day PCR and 3-Day real-time PCR workshops.
This workshop is offered in collaboration with Helixis Incorporated.
Helixis Inc., headquartered in Carlsbad, California, develops innovative nucleic acid tools for research applications. The company was founded in 2007 through a unique collaboration between molecular biologists and engineers in the labs of Nobel Laureate David Baltimore, Ph.D., and Axel Scherer, Ph.D., at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). The company is developing high performance instrument systems designed for individual researcher access and use. The initial commercial product, PIXO™, is the first personal real-time PCR system that brings qPCR technology within reach of every researcher. Providing all the high performance features found in large, high priced systems, PIXO™ is compact and affordably priced for individual researchers at the same price as many standard PCR thermal cyclers.
